Electric Kitten, Custom Motor Mount

$14.95

Description

This motor mounting solution is perfect for builders who plan to use a brushless motor to power their Electric Kitten, instead of the geared Speed 400 shown on the plans.
The mount consists of five indexing laser-cut, lite-ply pieces to create a standoff box that keys to the included F1 former, as shown. It also includes 4-40 socket head cap screws and T-nuts to secure the motor using its radial mount. There are two sets of the standoff box components, designed specifically for either of the two motors we have used to fly our Kittens, as described below.
This kit is suitable for those purchasing either the plan and template set, or the Electric Kitten short kit.
We are currently recommending three different power combinations for the Electric Kitten. The performance from these systems is essentially the same, and this motor mount kit will accommodate all three motors, properly spacing them between the firewall and cowl.
The first motor we flew in a Kitten was the Himax 2812-850, with 3S 1000-1500mAh batteries, and APC 8x6E propeller. Our second Kitten was powered by an AXI 2208/34, 2S 800-1200mAh batteries, and a 9×6 APC Slow Flyer prop. Another recommended option is the Cobra 2208/34 from Innov8tive Designs, and would use the same battery and prop combo as the AXI. They also stock suitable batteries, an appropriate ESC, prop mount and the recommended prop, for one stop shopping.
All three combinations provide more than enough power using the batteries and propellers shown, and have plenty of oomph for aerobatics and float flying, including taking off from the water at about half stick.
