We are pleased to announce a short kit for Nick Ziroli's 57-inch Morane Saulnier Parasol, as featured in the March 1970 issue of Flying Models. Another Sport Scale classic, this WWI French monoplane offers vintage appeal without the typical biplane hassle, in a size that will allow many to transport it assembled. The fully rounded fuselage with box and former construction, and swept parasol wing, are sure to make this early fighter a stand out at your local field. Below are a few notes about this offering.
Plan ID: CF188SK
Designer: Ziroli, Nick
Span: 57 in.
Short Kit includes ...
Balsa Wing Ribs and Formers
Ply Formers, Firewall and Strut mounting plates
Mat board templates for windscreen and aluminum cowl panel
Oversize sheet of Lithoplate for cowl panel
Plans, showing both wing panels.
As originally designed, the Morane Saulnier Parasol parts are to be cut primarily from 1/8 balsa sheet and birch plywood, and the stock short kits reflect that. We believe these designs predate the introduction of light ply to our hobby, which could be substituted in some places. This would help save some weight, especially for those planning to use electric power. We can also cut the ribs from thinner stock if you prefer. Please let us know if you would like to discuss this option.
The balsa and any light ply parts will be laser cut. Birch plywood parts over 1/16 inch thick are milled using a CNC-guided milling machine.
Note that the short kit also includes templates, laser cut from artist's mat board. These templates are for forming the windscreen and aluminum cowl plate along the fuselage top.
