Lithoplate is a favorite material for modelers looking to replicate sheet metal details on their models such as cowl panels, inspection hatches, canopy frames, trim tabs, and countless others. It is actual aluminum, measuring just 0.005 inches thick. Our sheets have a usable area measuring just over 11 x 17 inches, plus perforated borders, and weigh approximately 48g each. We can ship it rolled with plans.
Lithoplate traditionally comes with evidence of its past life in the printing industry. The sample pieces shown in the photograph were cut from a sheet that was first cleaned with a random orbital sander loaded with a 220 grit disk. From front to back they were cut using a 1/4-inch handheld paper punch, a shop-made 5/8-inch diameter punch, and a pair of scissors.
While lithoplate is in a hardened condition, you can readily anneal it using a propane torch. Doing so allows forming into compound curves with simple hand tools and a bit of practice.Click here
